Framing
We advise once you have received your print, to make arrangements to professionally frame your print as soon as possible, and suggest prints remain unopened until such a time. Ensure the package is stored in a safe and dry place and please avoid stacking anything on top. The paper and inks are velvet in nature and easily susceptible to damage when not handled with proper care.
All Jai Prints are framed by mounting to acid-free foam board and the framing in a Shadow box or Recessed frame and UV Protected Acrylic Perspex, with a spacer, which separates the Perspex from the artwork. This format is a nice balance between looking most like the original float framed canvas but also keeping it protected.

Tasmanian Oak Shadow Box Frame with Acrylic
Using the traditional method of framing our shadow box frame is created by using a ‘spacer’ between the Acrylic and the print. This creates depth and a shadow for a more modern feel. We highly recommend this particular frame for detailed pieces especially ones with hand leafing.
Tasmanian Oak Deep Recessed Frame with Acrylic
Carefully constructed the deep recessed frame creates a contemporary look with the end result being that the Acrylic is flush with the print itself. Unlike the shadow box frame the Tasmanian Oak becomes more embedded as an additional visual focus.
FAQ's
We have been told it can be put in a float frame where the print is mounted onto 3mm MDF using a roller and rear mounted onto the frame and then sprayed with a product to protect from dust and UV (e.g no perspex or glass covering). Apparently this would look best and most like a canvas as pictured.

Never mount valuable artwork to MDF as it is a product with acid in it, so over time, the acid will migrate through to the print and ruin it

It's not a good idea to have the print exposed, no matter what kind of spray is put on it, as it is still a paper product so it needs to be protected
Others have said it should not be stuck down to anything and needs to be covered by glass/perspex with a chunky frame to support the size/weight, with a matte border or separator so the print/gold leafing doesn't touch the glass.

Whilst not sticking it to anything is the technically correct archival method of framing, we always mount the prints down so they stay flat, it is an aesthetics choice over a archival choice. If the print is not stuck down to anything it will buckle and have that 'wavy' look that most people don't like. Of course, if someone specifically wants the print to not be mounted, we oblige.

Choose UltraVue anti-reflective glass as it is near invisible so you get very little reflection unlike standard glass or acrylic/perspex. It also provides 70% UV protection. It is quite a bit more expensive than standard glass but why invest in a beautiful print and then go for the cheap option when glazing it?

We use a 20mm wide x 40mm deep shadow box frame so it is nice and slim, not chunky, closest to how Jai's originals are 'float framed'. Float frames are 10mm wide. On Jai's larger prints, we use a bracing frame at the back to support it, to avoid the need for a chunkier frame.
